About MYCC
What is the Methuen Youth & Community Center (MYCC)?
The Methuen Youth & Community Center (MYCC) is supported by the City of Methuen. MYCC is operated and managed by Leadership & Literacy Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our center is a safe, inclusive space dedicated to empowering youth and strengthening community engagement. We provide mentorship, leadership development, academic support, and enrichment programs designed to help young people thrive—all at no cost to families.
What is MYCC’s mission?
The Methuen Youth and Community Center (MYCC) seeks to empower youth through inclusive programs, advocacy, and community engagement. By fostering collaboration, skill-building, and cultural awareness, MYCC will serve as a cornerstone for the development of future leaders.
Who does MYCC serve?
MYCC primarily serves youth in grades 6–12 in Methuen and the Merrimack Valley, offering after-school programs from 2:00 PM– 8:00 PM with additional hours on weekends, school vacations, and summer to accommodate specific programming. While our core focus is youth, we plan to expand programs to serve additional age groups in the future.
Methuen, MA, has a diverse population of approximately 53,000 residents, including a significant number of youth. According to the U.S. Census:
● Race/Ethnicity: Methuen is 62% White, 28% Hispanic/Latino, 4% Asian, 2.5% Black, and 3.5% multiracial or other groups.
● Socioeconomic Factors: About 7% of families live below the poverty line, and 33% of students in Methuen Public Schools are considered economically disadvantaged. Many youth face barriers to accessing mentorship, career pathways, and extracurricular activities, which MYCC aims to address.
How are MYCC programs designed?
Our programs are youth-driven, meaning they are shaped by the needs and voices of the youth we serve. Through listening sessions, surveys, and advisory groups, we will adapt and create new programs based on what youth express as their priorities and interests.
